Company Focus/Story:
Dawn Close lived in Southern Africa for a long time and had a desire to work with SMEs, product development & women. Originally the business was started with sewing, but it was very slow and unprofitable, so they transitioned into producing Jewellery. Zambia is a copper producing nation and so copper jewellery felt like a natural fit - however, finding copper within the country was a challenge, so they refocused on recycled copper which was readily available. FREE is focused on the empowerment of young women in Zambia's peri-urban communities where they are currently based.
